Privacy Policy
Effective Date: October 5, 2026
1. Overview
HTMLColor's tools process your data in your web browser, not on our servers. We do not sell, rent, or monetize your personal data.
In short:
- There are no accounts. You never give us a name, email address or password to use a tool.
- The colors you pick, the images you open and the text you type stay in your browser.
- Usage statistics are optional. In the EEA, the United Kingdom and Switzerland they are collected only if you accept them; elsewhere they are on by default. Either way you can turn them off at any time.
- We receive personal details from you only when you choose to send a message through the contact form.
2. Local image processing
When you use our Image Color Picker or Image Palette Extractor, your uploaded images are processed locally within your browser using the HTML5 Canvas API. The file contents, image pixels, and EXIF metadata are never transmitted over the internet to our servers or any third-party infrastructure.
The same applies to every other tool: conversions, contrast checks, palettes, gradients and exports are calculated on your device. Colors that appear in a page address (for example #3a6ea5 after the URL, or the fg and bg values of the contrast checker) exist so you can bookmark and share a link. They are removed from the address before any page view is reported to analytics.
3. Local storage
HTMLColor uses your browser's localStorage only to save your interface preferences and your recent colors. This data stays on your device and can be cleared at any time in your browser settings. Three entries are used:
htmlcolor_theme: your light or dark theme choice.htmlcolor_recent_colors: the last colors you picked, shown as quick swatches.htmlcolor_analytics_consent: whether you accepted or declined analytics, so we do not ask on every visit.
4. Analytics and your consent
HTMLColor uses Google Analytics 4 to understand which tools and pages are used, so we can improve them. Whether we ask first depends on the time zone your browser reports. The check runs in your browser, and the time zone is not sent to us.
- EEA, United Kingdom and Switzerland: a banner asks on your first visit whether you accept analytics. Until you choose "Accept analytics", Google Analytics is not loaded and sets no cookies. We also ask if your browser reports no time zone, or only UTC.
- Everywhere else: Google Analytics is on by default and no banner is shown. You can turn it off at any time in the cookie settings.
If you decline or turn analytics off, the site works exactly the same.
When analytics is on, Google Analytics sets first-party cookies (_ga and _ga_<ID>) and receives pseudonymous usage data such as the pages you visit, the time spent on them, your browser and device type, and your approximate location (country/city derived from your IP address, which Google Analytics 4 does not store). We also record a small set of interaction events, such as that a color was copied or a palette exported, with only a short label like the export format. We have turned off Google signals and ad personalization, and we never send colors, images, or anything you type into the tools. Google processes this data under its own privacy policy.
You can turn analytics on or off at any time in the , which are also linked at the bottom of every page. When you turn it off we stop sending data and delete the Analytics cookies from your browser.
Wherever you are, analytics is not loaded at all if your browser sends a Do-Not-Track or Global Privacy Control signal; we treat that signal as a refusal and do not show the banner. You can also block it with Google's opt-out browser add-on or by blocking cookies for this site.
5. Other third-party services
The site's typefaces (Fraunces, Lexend and Geist Mono) are loaded from Google Fonts. To deliver the font files, Google receives the technical details any web request carries, such as your IP address and browser type. Google Fonts does not set cookies.
Like any website, the hosting provider that serves HTMLColor processes standard server logs (IP address, requested page, time and browser type) to deliver the site and keep it secure.
In the future, HTMLColor may partner with Google AdSense to serve non-personalized or contextual advertisements to support server hosting and development. When advertising services are active, they may use standard cookies according to Google's published privacy policies. We do not use deceptive advertising layouts or hidden tracking pixels. No advertising is shown today, and this policy and the cookie policy will be updated before any is.
6. Contact form
If you send us a message through the contact form, the name, email address and message you enter are emailed to the HTMLColor team so we can reply. We use them only to respond to you and do not add you to any mailing list. To limit spam, the server keeps a pseudonymised form of your IP address (a keyed hash) and the time of your last message in a temporary file. It is stored separately from your message and used only to limit how often messages can be sent. The file is deleted once it is more than an hour old and another message is submitted through the form, or when the server clears its temporary files, so it can remain for longer while the form is not being used.
Messages are kept in our mailbox for as long as needed to deal with your request. Ask us and we will delete an earlier message.
7. Your choices and rights
You can act on the data described in this policy:
- Accept or decline analytics, or turn it off again, at any time in the cookie settings.
- Clear this site's data in your browser settings to remove your theme, recent colors and consent choice.
- Ask us for a copy of a message you sent, or to have it deleted.
Depending on where you live, data protection law may give you further rights, such as access to, correction of or erasure of personal data, and the right to complain to your local data protection authority. Contact us and we will respond to any such request.
8. Children
HTMLColor is a general-audience design utility. It is not directed at children, has no accounts, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
9. Changes to this policy
When the way we handle data changes, we update this page and the effective date at the top before the change takes effect.
